Repairs To Key Traffic Junction In Poole

Motorists are asked to be patient while urgent repairs are carried out to traffic signals at the Shah of Persia junction, Poole, following a road traffic collision in the early hours of Sunday, 28 February 2010.

Temporary traffic signals are expected to be in place at the busy crossroads of Longfleet Road, Ringwood Road and Fernside Road for the next ten days. Unfortunately, this will inevitably lead to delays at peak times as the temporary signals are not as responsive to traffic as normal signals.

Borough of Poole has a longstanding signals maintenance contract with Siemens Traffic to cover such incidents, who will carry out essential work to replace the traffic signal controller, poles and cabling damaged as a result of the accident. The opportunity is also being taken to renew all of the signal heads, which will have no impact on the overall repair time.

Steve Tite, Principal Manager for Transportation Services, Borough of Poole, said: "This is a key junction on our highway network so it is important we act quickly to remedy the situation. We are pleased that Siemens has been able to respond so promptly in arranging for the supply of the new controller and other equipment, and also to carry out the repairs themselves at such short notice."

A Siemens spokesman said: "Our maintenance teams are trained to the highest standards and operate from over 20 locations across the UK, and we always respond as quickly and effectively as we can to repair and restore signals to minimise the disruption to local people."
