The Future of Sandbanks Conservation Area

Borough of Poole's Planning Services has been working on a set of guidelines to help protect the conservation area and ensure that future development preserves the appearance and character of Sandbanks.

It has produced a draft report on the Sandbanks Conservation Area Character Appraisal and Management Plan link will open in new window and wants people to voice their opinions.

Residents and landowners will be able to discuss the plan with officers at two public meetings being held at the Haven Hotel link will open in new window, Sandbanks on Friday, July 4, between 6pm and 9pm, and Saturday, July 5, from 10am to 12pm.

The plan has been prepared as part of the council's on-going work to protect Poole's areas of architectural and historic importance. Sandbanks is one of 21 conservation areas in the borough.

The document provides a brief history of the north west shore of Sandbanks peninsula along with an assessment of the character of the buildings, landscaping and risks of flooding to the areas. It aims to define the architectural and historical qualities of 24 Edwardian and inter-war properties running west of the Royal Motor Yacht Club on Old Coastguard and Panorama Roads to North Haven point link will open in new window.

Councillor Ron Parker, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for the Local Economy, said: "The Sandbanks peninsula is one of the most memorable features of Poole and has unique characteristics. This document will be a useful guide for local residents who would like to change their properties, or others looking to carry out development within Sandbanks, so that plans can be designed to fit in with the character of the area. This is an opportunity for people to influence development in their local area."
