The Sheriff

Councillor Charles Meachin is the elected Sheriff, just one of 15 Sheriffs in the country allowed by Special Charter.

The role of the Sheriff supports the Mayor and Deputy Mayor in Civic duties and responsibilities. The Sheriff usually receives a small allowance of £750 to help with expenses. The Councillor serves a year as Sheriff, then becomes the elected Mayor before finally becoming Deputy Mayor.
