Landlord And Tenant Accreditation
About the Scheme
This scheme has been set up in partnership with the National Lanlords Association
to promote good practice and improve the image and standard of private rented accommodation in the Poole area. It is a voluntary scheme that officially approves landlords and tenants and letting agents in the private rented sector.
Objectives of the scheme
- To have accredited landlords and letting agents to provide good quality accommodation, that is occupied by accredited tenants.
- Promote good practice in the private rented sector and improve the quality of accommodation offered for letting.
- Recognize and encourage good communication between the private rented sector and the council.
- Recognize good quality accommodation in the Poole area.
Landlord Accreditation
What is expected of an Accredited Landlord:
- Maintain sound business and management practices and be aware of current legislation to maintain good quality properties.
- Comply with the Associations Code of Practice.
- Comply with legislative minimum standards for let properties.
- Ensure that properties meet the requirement of the schemes standards in terms of management and conditions for the type of property that is being accredited.
- Ensure that any staff or persons acting on their behalf comply with the requirements of the scheme.

To apply for the Accreditation Scheme, you will need to join the National Landlords Association
at a small and then contact Housing and Community Services to sign up.

Tenant Accreditation
What is expected of an Accredited Tenants:
- Abide by the requirements of their tenancy agreement and maintain good standards within their accommodation
- Behave appropriately to other tenants and individuals.
Benefits to tenants:
- Opportunity to join the Private Sector Tenants Forum, as a consultation group to discuss policies and legislation in the private rented sector.
To become an accredited tenant you must be nominated by a Landlord of an accredited property. You must have completed a tenancy of a minimum six months and in the opinion of the landlord shown that you meet the requirements of the scheme. Once a nomination is received the details are checked with the landlord and a Tenants Accreditation Certificate is Issued.
You can be nominated in two ways:
- The landlord nominates you directly to us as a 'good' tenant.
- The landlord can give a reference to you at the end of your six month tenancy period and you can then bring this to us.
