Abandoned Vehicles

We give high priority to protecting the safety of the community and the cleanliness of Poole and will remove burnt out and abandoned vehicles at the earliest opportunity.

There is no legal definition of an abandoned vehicle, however the following points need to be considered before a vehicle is deemed to be abandoned and can be removed:

  • Is the vehicle being used?
  • Does there appear to be an owner or keeper of the vehicle?
  • Is the vehicle taxed link will open in new window?
  • Is the vehicle burnt out?
  • Does the vehicle contain waste?
  • How long has the vehicle has been there?
  • Is the vehicle vandalised or damaged? eg. flat tyres, wheels removed or broken windows
  • Where is the vehicle located? eg. on private land

Untaxed Vehicles

It is an offence to drive or park an untaxed vehicle on the public road. Untaxed vehicles are dealt with by the DVLA.

Nuisance Parking

If the vehicle is not abandoned but is a parking nuisance, you should contact either:

  • the land owner - if the vehicle is on private land
  • the Police - if the vehicle is on the highway e.g. blocking a drive
