The Healthy Youth Centre Project
This is a partnership between Poole Youth Service and Poole Primary Care Trust. Young people in Poole have the opportunity of working with a youth worker on health related issues through the Healthy Youth Centre Project. It was designed following consultation with young people and youth workers and aims to promote healthy lifestyles for young people. There are 8 themes:
- healthy eating
- physical activity
- emotional health
- sex and relationships
- drugs including alcohol and tobacco
- safety
- community and environment
This project also compliments healthy schools work. As a result of a new criteria for Healthy Schools the Healthy Youth Programme is currently being rewritten.
The Healthy Youth Centre Project is innovative and interest has been shown on a national level. National Healthy Schools programme and the National Youth Agency have shown an interest in the work and we have been contacted by Youth Services across the country for details on how the scheme is run.
