Grounds Maintenance
The Council is responsible for managing and maintaining all public owned open spaces in the Borough. Some elements of this maintenance work are delivered through grounds management contracts.Leisure Services organise the contracts for all open spaces in the Borough, this includes parks, recreation grounds, cemeteries, Council housing areas, private housing areas (only where adopted) and roadside verges.
Most of the work is carried out by selected partners - where we enter into an agreement with private companies for the provision of services. In addition to these partnership agreements some elements of the work are undertaken by our own employees.
Our Grounds Maintenance partner is Continental Landscapes Ltd
. Services provided through the Grounds Maintenance Contract include:
- Allotments

- Arboriculture

- Floral Displays

- Grass Maintenance

- Hedges

- Playground And Skate Park Maintenance

- Shrubs

- Sports Pitch Bookings And Maintenance
Land Management
Not all land is maintained or in some cases owned by us. Some land, which appears publicly owned, can be private. Additionally, many parcels of land particularly around housing estates and development sites remain in the ownership of private developers.
Some areas are not covered by maintenance contracts, such as woodlands and heath land. Likewise some areas also require little or very infrequent maintenance, so are not included. When work may be required in these areas this is carried out as additional work to any contract agreement.
Reporting - Compliments and Complaints
If you think grounds maintenance work has been done poorly or late, please report the problem to us. Likewise if you have positive feedback about any aspect of the grounds maintenance service, please let us and our partners know.
A complaint is more serious than a report of a problem and you should receive a formal response within ten working days.
Examples of complaints include:
- Reports being ignored
- Very poor standards over a period of time
- Very late work
- Rude or offensive behaviour by the contractor or Council employees
When making a complaint, please provide as much detail as possible on the nature and location of the problem so the matter can be addressed as quickly as possible.
